Pilots Take First Two From Cougs
Mishawaka, Ind. --The University of Saint Francis (Ind). Cougars took on the Pilots of Bethel University for a Crossroads League matchup Friday. Despite battling hard the Cougars came up short twice.
Perry Stowe got the start for Game 1 for the Cougars. The game was tied through the first two innings and due to some defensive mistakes, the Pilots took a 5-0 lead into the fifth inning, after scoring five across the third and fourth. A Gavin Noble double in the fifth and Jayden Lepper homerun in the sixth cut the lead down as the Cougars made it 5-2. That's all they would get though and this one finished 6-2.
Game 2 was another tough loss for the Cougars. They started off hot getting two in the first from a Sam Pesa groundball and Eli Riley single. The Pilots responded with 1 of their own in the first. The Cougars bats struggled as Bethel continued to scratch runs and make it a 4-2 ballgame. USF had a chance late to make something happen but came up short 4-2.
The Cougars are now 12-10 and 3-7 in conference play and will take on the Pilots Saturday at 1:00 PM EST to finish up this conference series. Bethel is now 8-12 overall and 3-7 in conference.
