Cougars Split Series With Foresters
Fort Wayne, Ind. --The University of Saint Francis (Ind). Cougars took on the Huntington University Foresters on Monday afternoon for a crossroads league matchup. They finished up their four game series and it ended in a 1-1 day for the Cougs.
Game one's first pitch was at noon and it was a wild one. Huntington took an early lead scoring 5 across the first three innings. Jayden Lepper had a 2 RBI single to make it 5-2. But the Foresters continued to capitalize on walks and made it 6-2. USF responded and tied the game at 6 with a 4-run fourth inning courtesy of RBIs from Gavin Noble, Callan Stauffer, and Xavier Croxton. But that didn't last for long as HU put up a 5 run inning and a 2 run inning in the fifth and sixth. Carson Hunter came in during the seventh and shut down the Forester attack for three innings. The Cougars fought to make a comeback and got the winning run to the plate by scoring 5 in the ninth, but it wasn't enough as they dropped this one 13-11.
Game two had a dominating performance from the Cougar's starter Deron Swanson. He went 6.2 innings pitched only giving up 2 runs on 5 hits with 5 strikeouts. Callan Stauffer had a 2 RBI double in the bottom of the second to give the Cougs a 2-0 lead. The offense really came out putting up 5 in the fourth with RBIs from Kolton Cardenas, Xavier Croxton, and Sam Pesa. Despite a late Huntington homerun it wasn't enough as Graham Kelham came in to get the last out. Cougs on top 7-2.
