Cougars Struggle on Both Ends at Parkview Field against IT Warriors
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – On Tuesday afternoon the University of Saint Francis Cougars (24-20; 13-15 Crossroads) faced off against the Indiana Tech Warriors (22-17) for their annual Parkview game at Parkview Field but struggled on both ends losing 18-1.
Before the game, USF alum, community volunteer, and retired teacher Toni Murray threw out the first pitch and the Cougars thanked her for her dedication, commitment, and hard work for the university and the Fort Wayne community.
Senior pitcher Sean Ferguson started the game for the Cougars and was given a 1-0 first-inning lead, but after that the Warriors ran the table.
With one out, a double down the left field line tied the game and then the Warriors took a 3-1 lead on a two-out two-run double down the right field line.
After a scoreless second, the Warriors went back to work in the bottom of the third when four more hits and an error led to a couple unearned runs as the Cougars now trailed 5-1.
Heading to the bottom of the fifth, the Cougars bullpen struggled when consecutive hits and a hit batsman loaded the bases to open the frame. What followed was a fielder's choice, an error, and two-run double to plate four more runs for Indiana Tech.
Lastly, a six-run sixth featuring six hits and a three-run home run made it 15-1, and the Cougars struggled at the plate as well as they managed just three hits and that one run.
The Cougars resume play on Friday when they travel to Indianapolis for a four-game series against the Marian University Knights (21-21; 13-15 Crossroads) with a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 pm.
