10-Run Third Inning Paves Way for Cougars in 15-10 Win Over Indiana Tech

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – On Wednesday afternoon, the University of Saint Francis Cougars (17-6; 6-2 Crossroads) played host to the Indiana Tech University Warriors (10-11) in a single game at Cougar Field, and won 15-10 after scoring 10 runs in the third inning.

Senior pitcher Sean Ferguson took the mound to start for the Cougars and retired the side in order in the first, and then designated hitter David Miller put the Cougars ahead in the bottom of the inning with a two-run home run over the right-center field wall.

Although the Warriors battled back to tie the game at three in the third, in the bottom of the frame, the Cougars went back to work on offense, as their patience allowed for eight walks, three hit batsmen and 10 runs as they blew the game open at 13-3.

After the Warriors got a few runs back in the fourth and fifth, David Miller and first baseman Tyler Prince hit back-to-back home runs to lead off the bottom of the fifth to put Saint Francis back ahead by nine.

From there, the Cougars bullpen took over, firing zeros in the seventh and eighth innings before closing out the 15-10 slugfest.

The Cougars scored 15 runs despite getting just nine hits and used nine walks and five hit batsmen to their advantage.

The Cougars resume play when they travel to Spring Arbor, Michigan for a four-game conference series against the Spring Arbor University Cougars (9-7-1; 4-4 Crossroads) with doubleheaders Thursday and Friday at 1:00 pm.
