Cougs Sweep the Trojans in their 2nd Conference Sweep

UPLAND, Ind. -- The University of Saint Francis Softball team traveled to Upland to compete against Crossroads League competitor, Taylor University at Gudakunst Field, Wednesday afternoon in a doubleheader. The Lady Cougars won Game 1, 3-2 and won Game 2, 5-2.

In Game 1, Kenzie Rust gained the start on the mound striking out 4 batters and giving up 6 hits. The Cougars gained the lead early in the game with Aubrey Dunnuck hitting a home run in the 1st inning. USF continued to bring the heat into the 4th inning, with Anna Smith stealing second and Paiton Iliff scoring on a throw. In the 6th inning, Brooklyn McCord singled up the middle allowing Aubrey Dunnuck to score. Aubrey Dunnuck, Brooklyn McCord, and Brenna Homan all went 1:2 from the plate with Dunnuck and McCord both having one RBI each, with Macie Dowd and Anna Smith both going 1:3 from the plate, and Tori Miller going 1:4 from the plate.

In Game 2, Mia Werner earned her start on the mound, striking out 5 batters and giving up 5 hits. In the 1st inning, Dani Karr singled through the right side allowing Tori Miller to advance to third and Macie Dowd to advance and score. Abi Erwin also singled into right field allowing Dani Karr to advance to third and Tori Miller to advance to home and score as well. USF continued to bring the heat into the 3rd inning, with Paiton Iliff reaching on a fielders choice allowing Abi Erwin to advance to second and Macie Dowd to advance to home and score. In the 5th inning, Macie Dowd hit a homerun and Dani Karr singled to center field allowing Tori Miller to advance to home and score.

Dani Karr went 3:3 from the plate with 2 RBI's, with Aubrey Dunnuck going 1:2 from the plate, and Tori Miller going 2:3 from the plate. Macie Dowd went 3:4 from the plate with one RBI, Abi Erwin went 2:4 from the plate with one RBI, and Paiton Iliff also went 1:3 from the plate with one RBI. Brooklyn McCord also went 1:4 from the plate.

The Cougars will continue their season at 8-16 in the Crossroads League and a 14-20 overall. USF will be at home for their next doubleheader to compete against Taylor University. USF will play Taylor today (April 20th) with 12pm & 2pm start times. The Taylor University Trojans are currently 18-22 overall and 10-16 in the Crossroads League and on a two game losing streak due to the Cougs.
