SPRING ARBOR, Mich. -- Bessie Jenkins led a balanced scoring attack to help the University of Saint Francis cruise to its fifth straight win, 80-37, at Spring Arbor University on Wednesday night.
Jenkins scored 14 points in the USF win, the 14th-ranked Lady Cougars' seventh win in their last eight games. USF is 14-9 overall, 8-2 in the Mid-Central College Conference. USF resumes play on Saturday at Marian University, which is right behind USF in the MCC with a 7-3 record. Julie Seiss and Kym Bowsher added 11 points apiece for USF, which owns the longest win streak in the MCC. Meghan Prible and Seiss led USF rebounders with five apiece. Bowsher connected on 3-of-4 shots from 3-point range. Seiss led USF with four assists while Angie Roy and Bianca Woods delivered three apiece.
"We moved the ball well, did a good job in our press defense and forced them into a number of turnovers and bad shots," USF head coach Gary Andrews said. "Everybody played and played well."
The USF defense held SAU to 22 percent shooting for the game, 19 percent in the first half on just 4-for-21 shooting.
USF led by 20 points at halftime, 32-12, on its way to the regular-season sweep of the Cougars. USF never trailed bolting out to a quick 9-0 lead. The Cougars pushed it to a double-digit lead on a Bianca Woods jumper at 13:39, 13-2, and with 10:08 to play in the first half, Bowsher hit two free throws for a 17-7 lead, and it never dipped to single digits again.
