Sat., Dec. 20, 2008

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. -- Marie Kaufmann scored 20 points and Jamika Banks delivered a double-double to help the University of Saint Francis to an 81-72 win at Manchester College on Saturday afternoon.
While it was frigid outside, inside the Lady Cougars shot 74 percent in the second half to open up an insurmountable lead over the Spartans, who are an NCAA Division III member.
Banks finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Vini Dawson scored 14 points while Jessica Teubert and Stacia Shepherd scored 11 points apiece for the winners. USF is now 8-6 overall. The Lady Cougars scored the last five points of the first half to leap-frog into a 32-28 advantage.
"We played one our best halves of the season in the second half," USF coach Gary Andrews said. "We had excellent ball movement, made smart passes and took care of the ball."
USF opened up a 10-point lead and added to it until late in the game when MC made a late charge, but too late to catch USF, which won its third straight game.
The Lady Cougars resume play at Marian College on Monday, Dec. 22, at 1 p.m. This game was originally scheduled for Dec. 6, but postponed due to poor road conditions between Fort Wayne and Indianapolis. The game is scheduled for broadcast on WGL, 1250 AM, with a 12:45 p.m. pre-game. Phone line problems at Manchester prevented the broadcast of Saturday's game.
