SPRING ARBOR, Mich. -- At least the University of Saint Francis didn't surrender without a fight.
The Spring Arbor University Cougars jumped out to a 2-0 lead, then held off USF in Game 4 to win the match 3-1 on Wednesday night. USF had rebounded from two straight losses -- 25-21 and 25-20 -- to stave off the finish with a 25-18 win in Game 3.
USF battled from behind most of Game 4 and though the Lady Cougars got as close as two at 17-15, 18-16 and 21-19, they couldn't sustain a rally long enough to force a Game 5 dropping a 25-21 decision and with the loss the match.
Senior Cecelia Tieken led the USF offensive with 17 kills and Lorraine Morales-Soto added 14 for USF (10-7, 1-2 MCC). Kayci Cowgill delivered 39 assists, Tieken 12 digs and three aces.
USF resumes action with back-to-back Friday - Saturday matches. USF plays host to St. Xavier University (IL) on Friday at noon at Hutzell Athletic Center, then Homecoming Saturday at 10:30 a.m. against Ohio Dominican University.
