FORT WAYNE, Ind. – University of Saint Francis juniors Jean Marqueling and Nick Adams are ranked No. 2 entering competition at the 2010 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships beginning on Thursday in Marion, Ind.

Adams and Marqueling are the highest ranked among the four USF athletes who have qualified for Championships and they are dual qualifiers. They will both compete in the hammer and discus. Senior Matt Truttling and sophomore Sean Baines have also qualified and will compete for USF. Truttling qualified in the discus and Baines in the hammer.

Marqueling (Fort Wayne / Bishop Dwenger H.S.) was an All-American in 2009 and has the No. 2 effort in the Hammer Throw in 2010 at 184-3, just one inch shy of the top effort posted by Oklahoma Christian junior Denise Mattoon. Marqueling has also qualified in the discus with a best of 142-1 in the MCC Championship Meet on April 30. That discus effort ranks 18th on the NAIA list.

A three-time All-Mid-Central College Conference honoree, Marqueling opens her quest for a championship on Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Indiana Wesleyan University Track and Field Complex on the south side of Marion.

Marqueling earned her first NAIA All-American Outdoor award finishing second in 2009 as a sophomore with a then USF-record 179 feet, 10 inches (54.82 meters). Black Hills State University senior Aubrey Baxter won with an NAIA record throw 201-8 (61.48). Marqueling finished 15th as a freshman in 2008. Marqueling is a two-time NAIA All-American Indoor in the weight throw.

Adams (Fort Wayne / Northrop H.S.) has the second best effort in the discus in NAIA (172-3) and Matt Truttling (East Chicago, IN/East Chicago H.S.) the No. 11 best (160-4). Adams has the 10th best effort in the hammer throw (182-4) and Sean Baines (Edgerton, OH / Edgerton H.S.) (160-2) has the 41st –ranked hammer effort.

In 2009, Adams finished 13th in a field of 24 in the discus with a top effort of 150-6 (45.87 meters). Truttling finished 23rd out of 24 entries with a 140-3 (42.75 meters) in 2009.
