FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- University of Saint Francis forward Ryan Crawford scored two second-half goal to give the Cougars a 3-1 win over Taylor University on Tuesday afternoon.
USF improved to 10-2-2 overall and 3-2 in the Mid-Central College Conference. Pat Ohms used his head to deflect a Justin Adams pass in the first half to tie the score at 1.
The win halted a 2-game losing streak for the Cougars. USF keeper Ryan Roy made seven saves. Roy along with the rest of the USF defense withstood 11 second-half shots by the Trojans, who slipped to 1-2-1 in MCC play, 5-8 overall.
Tyler Beachler, who came into the match at No. 3 in MCC goal scoring, got his ninth in the 12th minute to give TU a 1-0 lead and tie Crawford for No. 2 in the MCC.
Ohms darted into the box to head in Adams' shot in the 33rd minute and deadlock the score.
Crawford finished a pass from Alex Rauch to put the Cougars in front for the first time 2-1 at the 53rd minute. He re-claimed the No. 2 slot on the MCC goal-scoring list with his 10th goal of the season and added his 11th goal in the 64th minute with assists from Adams and Josh Whitfield.
Crawford's 11th goal this season pulled him onto the USF career goal-scoring list at No. 10 with 24.
The Cougars then deflected a flurry of shots from a frenzied Trojan attack to protect their two-goal advantage in the final 27 minutes under a diminishing sun with a steady breeze out of the northeast 15-20 mph and temperatures in the low to mid 70s.
USF resumes play on Wed., Oct. 15 at 4 p.m. against Marian College at 4 p.m.
