KENDALLVILLE, Ind. -- Bryan Elston shaved six shots off his first day total and led a University of Saint Francis charge to the Cougar Spring Invitational championship on Saturday at Cobblestone Golf Course near Kendallville.
Elston won his first college tournament shooting a 72 on Saturday while USF shot a 306 to complete a thrilling surge to the title. Elston finished with a two-day total seven over par 150 (78-72) to take medalist by five shots over runnerup and USF teammate Zac Johnson, who finished at 155 (80-75). Nick Kelley finished with a 157 (78-79) giving USF a 1-2-3 finish. Bob Bragg finished tied for 11th witha 160 (82-78) and Jared Friedt finished tied for 20th at 165.
Huntington University led after the first round at Noble Hawk with a 317 followed by Spring Arbor at 319 and USF at 320. SAU's Mitch Bent led first day individual scores with a 75 followed by HU's Jordan Dawes at 77 and Elston at 78.
