FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- One final time, former University of Saint Francis men's basketball coach Jeff Rekeweg basked in the Fort Wayne spotlight on Saturday night along with his staff
and some members of the NAIA National Champion Cougars.
Prior to the Fort Wayne TinCaps game against Beloit, the TinCaps introduced the national champion Cougars to what was a growing crowd at Parkview Field on a warm, muggy early evening along the first base side of the field in front of the TinCaps dugout. The
Cougars waved to the crowd and received a warm welcome from the TinCaps fans after getting introduced by 'Caps PA man Jim Shovlin. It was also USF Alumni Night at Parkview Field, so the Cougars were well represented in numbers which included USF President Sister Elise Kriss.
Then Rekeweg took part in the TinCaps 'first pitch' pre-game activity before settling into seats along the third-base line complements of the TinCaps.
This was the third time a professional team in Fort Wayne paid tribute to USF
for winning the 2010 NAIA Division II National Basketball Championship back in March.
Rekeweg resigned as head coach after 14 seasons to take the job at Northwood University in Midland, Mich. Chad LaCross was soon aftrer named head coach of the Cougars.
