FORT WAYNE, Ind. – University of Saint Francis guard Qadr Owens has been selected Mid-Central College Conference Player of the Week after he led the Cougars to a pair of crucial road wins and up to second place in the MCC.
Owens (Indianapolis, IN / Lawrence North H.S.) transferred to USF from IU-South Bend and sat out the 2008-09 season while attending USF. In the Cougars’ 89-87 win at No. 4 Bethel that ended the Pilots’ 31-game home court win streak, Owens scored 11 of his 17 points in the final 20 minutes. He made the 3-pointer that put the Cougars (19-4) ahead to stay with about eight minutes to play in the game.
He led USF scoring in a hard-earned game at Taylor on Saturday and for the two games finished shooting .588 overall (10-for-17). He was perfect from 3-point range (4-for-4 against Bethel) and averaged 3.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and two steals.
USF swept conference honors this week with USF guard Bessie Jenkins’ selection on the women’s side. This is Owens first selection as a member of the USF squad, the second time he been named a conference player of the week, He is the second Cougar to be named this season joining DeJovaun Sawyer-Davis.
