FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- Harding High School senior La’ Mondre Warren is keeping his basketball game and pursuit of a college degree close to home.
Warren made it official on Friday signing to continue his
education and basketball at the University of Saint Francis on Friday afternoon. USF head coach Chad LaCross was joined by La’ Mondre’s mother, Lisa Billingsly, Harding head coach Al Gooden, HHS Athletic Director C.C. Fullove and Principal Neal Brown.
“I’m really pleased to have Dre joining the USF basketball family,” LaCross said. “He’s got impressive skills. He was one of the most exciting seniors in the area this season his skills will be an asset at the next level. I’m confident he will contribute this season.”
Warren, 18, averaged a team-leading 18.8 points per game and averaged just under four assists per game (3.8). He also led the Hawks in steals with 55. He scored 20 or more points in eight games with a high of 25 twice including the 70-62 win over South Side that clinched the Summit Athletic Conference regular season title.
“I think No. 1, he enjoys the game of basketball and No. 2, he’s gonna work at it,” Gooden said. “That’s what’s gonna make him a positive college player. He’s played with some good guys comin’ up – Dre Muhammad, Brice Underwood, Evan White. He saw those guys play as seniors, so he knew what was expected and he got his turn, he stepped up and played well.
