FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- One goal did it again.
This time Sara Thieme teammed up with University of Saint Francis teammate Melissa Ellisen to give the Lady Cougars a 1-0 win over Taylor University on a warm, early fall-like afternoon at Coonan Field.
USF, now 13-5-1, advances to the semifinal round of the Mid-Central College Conference Tournament for a re-match at Marian College on Nov. 8 in Indianapolis.
After a scoreless first half, Ellisen lined a pass to Thieme who re-directed the pass to the back of the net for the only tally of the match. Thieme scored at 48:49 and then it was up to the USF defense.
"We really got great play out of defense thwarting Taylor's attack," USF coach Christy Young said after getting her first post-season win as USF head coach. "We played well, so did Taylor. It was an excellent match."
TU didn't get a shot on goal and only took one shot.
TU keeper Shawna Lane kept her squad in the match rejecting three first half shots and one more in the second half.
The win gave USF two straight wins over TU, which lost just a week ago at Coonan Field 2-1 in the Trojans final regular-season match. That loss assured USF home-field advantage in the first round of the MCC Tournament. Angie Carrusone had two shots-on-goal to lead USF's attack.
