Lady Cougars golf team earns 1st NAIA Top 25 rating

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Just in its fourth season, the University of Saint Francis women's golf team has earned its first NAIA Top 25 ranking.

Under the guidance of head coach Chad LaCross, the Lady Cougars are ranked No. 20 in the first NAIA rating of the season, which is conducted by coaches. USF added women's golf to its athletic programs for the 2005-06 school year.

USF won two tournament championships in Fall 2008 and one individual title. The Lady Cougars came back from a 14-shot deficit after day one to steal the 13-team Kentucky Wesleyan Invitational. USF defeated NCAA D-2 Missouri-St. Louis by way of the fifth player score after both teams tied at 666. The 13-team field was the largest tournament the Lady Cougars have won in the history of the program. Katie Jones and Lindsey Eaton led the way for USF finishing in a tie for fifth with 165s. Senior Randi Shellman with shot 168 to tie for 10th.

USF also won the USF Cougar Invitational last fall edging Marian based on freshman Amber Black's score. Black finished tied for sixth at 172 along with teammate Hilary Bowman. Jones and Eaton tied for third with 164s.

On September 21st Hilary Bowman won the Ohio Northern Invitational with a 79 (71 player field) to become the second Cougar to medal in a tournament in the history of the program.
