KANSAS CITY, Mo. -  Ten of The University of Saint Francis' 16 athletic teams have earned national distinction for academic achievement, as announced today by the NAIA. Those 10 teams have earned designation as NAIA Scholar teams through their work in the classroom.

Indoor track and field led the USF teams selected for academic achievement with a 3.61 average. Other USF teams earning the honor included men's cross country, women's cross country, women's outdoor track and field, women's golf, women's soccer, softball, men's golf, men's basketball and men's outdoor track and field.

"Two years ago we set a standard of academic achievement; and through the hard work of our faculty, coaches and staff, our student-athletes have achieved our goal,"  said USF Athletic Director Mark A. Pope. "The NAIA Scholar Teams Awards are one more indication that we are doing things the right way at USF.  I congratulate those who have achieved this goal and challenge all teams to reach this standard during the 2009-2010 academic year."

For a team to be considered for the NAIA Scholar Team award, they must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) as defined by the institution. The team grade point average must include all varsity athletes certified as eligible.
