FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- University of Saint Francis senior running back Daniel Carter (Indianapolis / Decatur Central H.S.) has been named to the 2009 American Football Coaches Association NAIA Coaches All-America Team.
The AFCA has selected an All-America team since 1945 and currently
selects teams in all five of its divisions. What makes these teams so special is that they are the only ones chosen exclusively by the men who know the players the best — the coaches themselves.
Carter was named to the AP position – all-purpose after he finished as the career all-purpose yards leader in the MSFA with 7,171 yards. He finished 18th in NAIA all-purpose yards this season with 1,449 for an average of 144.9 in 10 games, though he only appeared for two plays in the final game of the season because of a hamstring injury sustained in the ninth game of the season.
He became just the third back in MSFA history to rush for more than 4,000 yards in a career finishing with 4,005, also a USF record. He averaged 105 yards per carry in 2009 and finished with 1,050 yards rushing. He became the only back in USF history to post back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons after finishing with 1,132 yards as a junior in 2008. He also finished as the USF career scoring leader with 396 points.
Carter is the third member of a USF football named to the team. Brian Kurtz was the first selection in the first year for the exclusively NAIA team in 2006 and in 2008 Tim Farrell became USF’s second selection.
