FORT WAYNE, Ind. – This week it’s Daniel Carter’s turn.
For the third time in four weeks, the University of Saint Francis has had a member of the football team named Mid-States Football Association Mideast League Player-of-the-Week.
Carter (Indianapolis, IN / Decatur Central H.S.) is the first offensive member of the Cougars chosen this season after he rushed for 173 yards and two TDs in USF’s 42-14 win at No. 23 Malone University in Canton, Ohio, on Saturday.
This is the third time Carter has been selected during his four-year career with the Cougars, the third time in the last two seasons as well. He cut back across the grain for a 74-yard rushing TD early in the third quarter ballooning the USF lead to 28-0. He scored the first TD on an 8-yard run in the first quarter and finished with 83 yards rushing in he first half.
Carter’s 173 yds rushing moved him up to 2nd in MSFA stats heading into the Cougars’ fifth game of the season at Walsh back in Canton, Ohio. He averaged 7.9 yds per carry rushing and he finished with 235 all-purpose yards to take over he MSFA lead. He also had 8-yd TD run in 1st half. Carter’s third 100-plus yard game in four games this season gives him nine for his career, No. 2 all-time at USF behind Mike Ledo, who finished with 12.
Carter also moved three slots to No. 10 on the MSFA career rushing list with 3,451 yards. He also closed in on the all-purpose career yards list lead with 6,401, just 371 behind current leader and USF grad Cory Jacquay at 6,772.
Last week senior DE Stephen Whited was selected and after USF’s first win of the season, senior OLB Troy Hudson was selected. This is the 60th time in the 12-year history of the program a Cougar has been selected. Carter was named for special teams and offense one time each in 2008.
