WACO, Texas -- University of Saint Francis football coach Kevin Donley has been named an NAIA Region Coach of the Year by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA).
Donley, in his 11th season as head coach at USF, was selected for Region 2. This is the first time Donley has been recognized in the third season the award has been given to strictly NAIA.
This was Donley's 30th season as a head coach. Donley is 114-23 in 11 seasons at USF, 229-109-1 following conclusion of his 30th year as a collegiate head coach. He has guided USF to six unbeaten regular seasons in the last seven. He was MSFA MEL Coach of the Year, his 15th conference coach-of-the-year honor -- 7 at USF, 6 at Georgetown (KY) and 2 at Anderson (IN). USF also posted its eighth consecutive season with double-digit wins and is 98-9 during that 8-year stretch.
The AFCA recognizes five regional Coach of the Year winners in each of the Association's five divisions: Football Bowl Subdivision, Football Championship Subdivision, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
The winners are selected by Active members of the Association who vote for coaches in their respective regions and divisions.
The 2008 Regional Coach of the Year winners will be recognized at the AFCA Coach of the Year Dinner at the 2009 AFCA Convention in Nasahville, Tenn. The dinner is scheduled for January 13.
