Maury Waugh

Inside Linebackers / Special Teams Coach

   Maury Waugh returns to the USF staff for his fifth season bringing 46 years of experience as an assistant and head coach at the high school and collegiate level. That includes nine seasons at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill.

       Prior to joining the USF staff, Waugh directed the defense at Wayne State University in Detroit. He spent the previous four seasons (1998-01) as assistant head coach/defensive coordinator and linebacker coach at Western Carolina University. He was an assistant head coach and defensive line coach in 1997 at WCU.

   Waugh was a four-year starter at fullback (1958-61) at the University of Dubuque (Iowa) and earned a master's degree in physical education from Indiana in 1966. Waugh's first collegiate coaching position was at his alma mater, where he served as defensive coordinator for two seasons before spending six seasons (1969-74) as head coach.

    He then spent five years (1975-79) as head coach at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa. He moved on to Drake University for three seasons then joined the Northwestern University where he served from 1983 to 1991. Waugh left Northwestern to take the head coaching job at Lake Forest College (1992-94). Waugh was the running backs coach at the University of Pacific in 1995 and returned to Illinois after Pacific dropped football. He spent one season as running backs coach at Libertyville High School before joining the Western Carolina staff.

    Waugh and his wife, Sandy, reside in the Kendallville area, and are the parents of four sons.
