Al Harants

Quarterbacks Coach

Al Harants Al Harants returns for his seventh season as a member of the USF staff bringing a wealth of knowledge about the run-and-shoot offense having employed it throughout his time as a high school head coach. Harants, who was inducted into the Indiana Football Hall of Fame in June 2005, was 220-115 as a high school head coach including stops at three schools in the Fort Wayne region. Harants retired from teaching and head coaching duties at North Central High School in Indianapolis in February of 2002 after 10 years running the Panthers' football program.

Harants, who coached quarterbacks his first five seasons with USF, started out at South Adams High School, moved to Bellmont H.S. in Decatur, and then to Wayne, where he went 33-30 building a winning tradition at a school where wins were rare. Wayne advanced to the 1992 Class 4A championship and won the championship in 1995.  He also served as an assistant coach at Concordia High School in 2002 and helped the Cadets advance to the school's first regional football championship.

He lives in Fort Wayne with his wife, Sandy.
