Greg Roberts, Head Coach

Roberts, a 1980 Ohio Northern University graduate, returns for his fifth season as head baseball coach at USF in 2010. Roberts was assistant head coach of the Roberts talks after gmCougar program under former dugout boss Doug Coate the previous two seasons.

In 2009, Roberts led USF to its first winning season in baseball and best overall won-loss record at 32-21. He needs one win in 2010 for his 100th win as head coach at USF. USF finished second in the Mid-Central College Conference with a record of 17-7.

Prior to joining the USF staff, Roberts served as an assistant coach for 15 seasons and one season as interim head coach at his alma mater, ONU. The team qualified for the NCAA Division III Regionals in eight of those campaigns and had 12 winning seasons.

During his playing days, Roberts helped the 1974 ONU squad qualify for the NCAA World Series. A 1971 Bellfontaine (OH) High School graduate, Roberts also served for 20 years on the Lima, Ohio, police department, the last 15 as an investigator.

He and his wife Donna now reside in Fort Wayne and are the parents of five children including Hunter.

 

Dustin Butcher, Assistant Coach

A former Cougar Baseball team member who graduated Dustin Butcher asst coachin 2001 with a degree in psychology, Butcher will work with hitters, infielders and the junior varsity team in 2007. Butcher played at USF from 1998 through 2001. He served as an assistant coach at Marian College while completing his Masters in Sports Psychology at Ball State University. A Heritage High School graduate, Butcher is a teacher at Wayne High School teaching Jobs for America's Graduates. He also works for "Play It Smart" and the National Football Foundation. Butch and his wife, Jessica, reside in Fort Wayne.

John Schlichter, Assistant Coach

John Schlichter asst coachSchlichter continues his association with Cougar baseball as a coach this season after playing one season for USF in 2009. He is a Carroll High School graduate. He hit .234 in his only season with USF while play third and first base and helping USF to a program record 31 wins. In 2008, Schlichter started 26 games for the University of Illinois and led the team in slugging percentage in Big Ten games (.569) while batting .293 with four doubles, three triples and two home runs out of his 17 hits in Big Ten play. He finished his Illini stint with 17 RBI and scored 10 runs.
